Target Audience

I think my target audience should be the studants of Wyke Sixth Form College. This is because I think that the studants fit into all four of the psychographics, as some of the studants like to fit in with the people there and some like to be 'special' and have their own style of clothes and personality. I will hopefully be able to achive this for my magazine using outer and inner-directed headlines for articles. So for the group driven by needs I will include important information such as what the has to offer in terms of facilities and subects. For the groups who are inner-directed there will be interviews with some studants studying the most popular and most interesting subjects. I will appeal to the groups who are outer-directed by mentioning all the different types of people with different trends in the college. For the groups who are inner and outer-directed, there will be interviews with one teacher per subject who will keep the studants up to date with all the events in the college such as the trips .

The demographics for the National Readership Survay's social grades will probably fall into grade E which are the unemployed, casual labourers and state pentioners which is 13% of the population. This is because most of the people who will read this will be studants with a low paid job or are umemployed.

Price

I have decided to make my college magazine seasonal, so there will be up to four issues a year (winter, spring, summer and autumn). This is because alot of colleges use this method for publishing their college magazine. I think that my magazine should be affordable for people who will read it, normally aged 15-24. The price will probably be £2 per issue and should give discount for students with NUS cards. This will be an affordable price for the age demographic I have chosen because if it is too expensive, they would probably rather spend it on something else which they want such as a weekly magazine.

Choice Of College

I decided to choose Wyke Sixth Form College because I study at the college so I know what the college has to offer in terms of facilities, teaching and subjects. I think that Wyke College will be a good college to do my magazine for because the buildings are very modern and the atmosphere feels inviting, friendly and relaxed. I also feel that I could describe the views and values in a very persuasive manner.

LIIAR Analysis Of Lewisham College Magazine

Front Page

L: This issue of the Lewisham College magazine has a clear and brightly coloured masthead in the top, left hand corner of the front cover and the colleges name is abbriviated to 'The LC'. All of the writing on the cover is in the same font and colour and the logo in the bottom right hand corner is also in the same, white font colour. The bright, white font colour stands out from the background making it easier to read and all the features are set down the left hand side of the page. This makes the cover look neat and organized and makes the reader look from the masthead, down to the features and then the logo in the right hand corner.
The banner headline 'Fresh Talent' relates to the picture because the person is holding a pair of drumsticks in his hand so it must mean that the talent is musical talent. Also, the model in the image looks relaxed and laid-back with a low-angled shot to show the confidence of the model. The must want the reader to think that their college is like this with all of their studants.

I: The college for this magazine is Lewisham college in London. They have used this studant to feature in the front cover because his relaxed posture and his facial expression gives off a positive vibe but also shows that he takes his work for his courses seriously. The college will want this because it will make the studants feel comfortable with their suroundings and will help them to concerntrate in their lessons.

I: I think that the idea of this college magazine is to give the studants a feeling of freedom in the college so that the studants feel as though they are in a work place rather than a school. The college also want the reader to believe that the college wants people who are talented at something.

A: I think that the college studants will have a positive attitude towards the magazine because the front cover mentions 'NYC' and 'fresh talent' which will attract many of the studants and will want them to read on.

R: Young adults and teenagers are usually more interested in music then they are in any other stage in their lives. The magazine uses this to to draw more readers of that age in. This also makes the college look as though they are interested in musical talent. So this would make studants want to join the college so that they can show their musical talent and also study music as an A Level. Also, the model is wearing branded trainers and has earphones hanging down from his neck which many teenages do in modern day colleges to make it easy to access their music on their iPods.

Contents Page

L: The contents page for the Lewisham College magazine is presented in the same font as the cover but the font colour has been switched around. The main headlines in the magazine are in pink to make it stand out to the rest of the text. The contents are down the left hand side of the page, to the left of the 'Note From The Principal'. This is well organised and clearly listed with the titles of the articles along with the page references. Their catchy headings for their artilces make the reader want to read more about it and the text below the headings also make the reader interested in the what the college has to say. The text below the pink headings are accompanied by pictures which catch your eye straight away because many readers prefare short texts with picures around them. The 'Note From The Principle' is not too formal and is inviting to the reader which gives the impression that the staff at the college are friendly and have a positive towards the subject they teach and the new studants they will meet.
